2025 International Sustainable Innovative Design Work Review & Green Future Seminar was successfully held
On May 17, 2025, the2025 International Sustainable Innovative Design Work Review & Green Future Seminar was grandly held in the core area of Beijing CBD. This symposium brought together 13 renowned experts and scholars from all over the world to jointly explore the cutting-edge concepts and practices of sustainable innovative design, contributing wisdom and strength to promoting the global sustainable development cause.
The seminar kicked off with a group photo session before the event began, and the guests demonstrated high expectations for this event.
Subsequently, in the opening session, Mr. Liu Guanzhong, the father of industrial design in China and a senior professor of liberal arts at Tsinghua University, delivered a wonderful speech. He pointed out that the future development direction of design is gradually shifting from merely pursuing creativity and aesthetics to a comprehensive design thinking centered on sustainable innovation. This transformation stems from the global environmental crisis, resource shortage and society's emphasis on ethical responsibility, which prompts design to shift from "form first" to "systematic solutions", and the role of designers also changes from "styling artists" to "promoters of systematic change". Professor Liu Guanzhong emphasized that technological breakthroughs are like lightning streaking across the night sky, and only those who can transform lightning into a lasting source can illuminate the entire era. In the long river of human civilization, every leap has not been a victory of tools, but an awakening of wisdom. He encourages the younger generation to transform the lightning of artificial intelligence technology into a permanent light source and contribute to the cause of sustainable development. Meanwhile, he hopes that the "International Green Award" can select more high-quality sustainable innovative design products and works to empower the design industry.
Mr. Wang Yudong, the chairman of Beijing International Design Week Co., Ltd. and the person in charge of the organizing committee of Beijing International Design Week, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to the International Green Future Alliance and the International Youth Sustainable Innovation Summit for their invitation, and on behalf of the organizing committee of Beijing International Design Week, extended warm congratulations on the convening of this symposium. He introduced that the Beijing International Design Week, as a creative design brand event based in Beijing, radiating across the country and connecting the world, has always adhered to the mission of "empowering the city with design and laying the foundation for the future with innovation", and has built an international platform connecting design forces from five continents. By establishing strategic partnerships with over 40 international institutions such as Milan Design Week, Paris Design Week and London Design Festival, it attracts innovative projects from dozens of countries every year, constantly injecting new vitality into Chinese design in its dialogue with the world. In terms of cultivating young design forces, Beijing Design Week has established a complete training system, including setting up the "Young Design 100" support program, jointly building innovation laboratories with institutions such as the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and holding activities such as the Huacan Award and the China-Us Youth Maker Competition, providing opportunities for young designers to showcase their talents. Mr. Wang Yudong expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation with all of you present, jointly support the growth of young designers, and guide them to join the ranks of sustainable design. He also mentioned that the International Green Future Alliance, as a lighthouse organization for global sustainable design, advocates the concept of "jointly painting a green future for the Earth", which is highly consistent with China's "dual carbon" strategy and the requirement of "cultivating green design demonstration enterprises" in the "14th Five-Year Plan for Green Development of Industry". The "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of Green Design" recently issued by the Chinese government emphasizes the need to build a green design system covering the entire life cycle, which is precisely the mission of The Times that contemporary designers need to shoulder.
Mr. Ma Fei, the founder of the International Youth Sustainable Innovation Summit (YSS), gave a detailed introduction to the YSS in his speech. YSS is an international platform-type incubator with wide influence, focusing on the field of sustainable development and taking sustainable technological innovation and sustainable design innovation as its two core directions. Since 2022, YSS has been successfully held for several consecutive sessions in places such as Shamsayat, Egypt, Montreal, Canada, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Shenzhen and Chengdu, China, and Baku, Azerbaijan. It has attracted the in-depth participation of hundreds of academic guests and UN officials from over 50 countries around the world. And showcase the innovative achievements in a concentrated manner at the United Nations Climate Conference in November every year. YSS has a wide global presence, setting up "innovation centers integrating technology and design" in various parts of the world. Through organizing a series of activities such as global summits, innovation competitions, and talent collaborations, it has built a cross-disciplinary and cross-regional platform for the collision of ideas and practical exchanges. Mr. Ma Fei announced that in 2025, YSS will continue to deepen its cooperation with the International Green Award and officially enter the second Sustainable Living Environment Competition. Meanwhile, the first International Sustainable Product Design Competition and the Science and Technology Innovation Competition launched this year will collect works and outstanding cases covering global fields such as the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He said that the 2025 International Sustainable Innovation Design Appreciation and Green Future Symposium, which was launched today, will unite the design community, industry and academia to select outstanding green design works for exhibition at this summit, inspiring young designers around the world to create products, services and solutions that balance aesthetic trends and sustainability with design as the driving force. YSS looks forward to working hand in hand with all experts to deconstruct innovation and drive the future for the global sustainable development cause.
During the work appreciation session, the summit witnessed a major event - the appreciation of works in the living environment design section. A total of 896 pioneering solutions from around the world were selected and presented on the spot. The guests, based on their own fields and work experience, conducted in-depth analysis and evaluation of the works. These works showcase the innovative practices of sustainable design in the field of living environment, providing new ideas and directions for future urban planning and architectural design.
After the tea break, the seminar moved on to a deep dialogue activity - "The Importance and Challenges of Cross-disciplinary Collaboration in Sustainable Design". The guests engaged in a lively discussion on how cooperation between design and multiple fields such as technology, engineering, and environmental protection can promote the development of sustainable design, as well as the problems and solutions encountered during the cooperation process. Everyone freely expressed their opinions and jointly explored the infinite possibilities of cross-border collaboration, providing valuable suggestions and experiences for promoting cross-disciplinary cooperation in sustainable design.
After lunch, the event moved on to the product design section for work appreciation, where 100 sets of solutions that integrate technology and aesthetics were unveiled. These works fully demonstrate how new materials technology, intelligent technology and digital tools can be applied in product design to achieve sustainable development goals, reduce environmental impact and promote green, low-carbon and circular development. The second subsequent thematic discussion - "Sustainable Development Trends and Technological Applications in Product or Scene Design" - saw the guests delve deeply into the sustainable development trends and technological applications in product and scene design, providing forward-looking insights for the industry's development.
During the signing session of the "YSS Sustainability Initiative", all the guests solemnly left their commitments and marks on the initiative with markers, jointly witnessing that sustainability is not only an idea but also concrete actions. At the closing ceremony, many guests delivered their remarks one after another, bringing this symposium to a successful conclusion. Mr. Jenchieh Hung, the exhibition chairman of the Royal Institute of Siam Architects in Thailand and the founder of HAS design and research, expressed his feelings: This symposium brought together perse wisdom and experience from around the world. Sustainable design concepts from different cultural backgrounds collided with each other, giving me a brand-new direction for thinking about how to achieve a balance between ecology and humanity in future architectural design.
